What is this site

Fukushima Environment Database and Knowledge Base is the website of Japan Atomic Energy Agency, JAEA.
This website answers questions like below;

- What is the recent status of radioactive Cs distributed to the environment after FDNPP accident?
- What will it go?
- What shall we take care of?

2 contents are included in this site.

Database for Radioactive Substance Monitoring Data

The radioactive substances have spread over the environment after FDNPP accident. JAEA has widely gathered the information of the environmental distribution of radioactive Cs and air dose rate. These data are provided in the Database for Radioactive Substance Monitoring Data.

Base Information Q&A site

We realize that the environment is needed where the knowledge gained by the monitoring data and the analysis are explained to the public, as well as are shared between experts with reports and papers. We devise for providing the knowledge in the “Base Information Q&A site”.

  • We arrange the knowledge to questions and answers form.
  • For each users’ knowledge level, we provide both simple explanations and technical reports.
  • Each article links to original papers, reports and websites for more detail information.

And we have made analytical case studies for the dynamics of environmental radioactive Cs based on accumulated data. These results are also arranged into Q&As.

  • How does radioactive Cs move in environment and what its mechanism is.
  • How will the air dose rate and the radioactive Cs concentration change in future.

These results are useful for verification of effectiveness of the countermeasures such as the decontamination.

We provide the results of monitoring, researches and analysis, and the knowledge gained by them in this site, that contains “Database for Radioactive Substance Monitoring Data” and “Base Information Q&A site”. The information are based on the scientific evidence and updated in a timely manner. It’s utilized for planning to remove of the evacuation order, return home of evacuees of local governemts, and for the concrete discussion of rational safety measures to reduce exposure.
