Major Nuclear Accidents and Their Consequences

Types of Accident

For comparative purposes, brief descriptions of the major nuclear accidents that have occurred are provided.

It is emphasised that the focus here is on major accidents at nuclear installations. However, there have also been numerous instances of individuals or small groups of people being exposed to excessive radiation doses from other types of accidents, e.g. as a consequence of incorrectly planned medical treatments, in industrial radiography, and from lost or stolen radiation sources.
